07/08 Pop, punk, blues, folk, metal
I picked songs for a playlist this week because it seemed like there were two songs I liked on most albums. That being said give some of these albums a listen especially Laura Mvula and The Go! Team.
Chase it down - Bobby Gillespie Still bridging the gap between indie or alternative and pop that he has done before with Primal Scream. It works for me.
Novo Mundo - Yndi Leaning more into the pop genre is this Franco-Brazilian composer and performer
Church Girl - Laura Mvula I really wanted to lean heavy into pop with this mix and I think this song is a great representation of the genre; however, Conditional is my favorite song on the album. Apparently she used to do jazz-fusion that I’d like to check out.
Let the Seasons Work - The Go! Team Every song sounds different on this album so if you don’t like this one you will find something you’ll like. This made me think if they make a movie Rocky 30 where his grand daughter is running up the stairs in Philly to this song.
The Evidence - Snapped Ankles A critic said that this band wouldn’t make new fans with Forest of Your Problems. That critic is really stupid. I heard a good punk band doing their thing on this album. Undialated Lovers is a great song too.
Step In - Cedric Burnside I love the juxtaposition of blues and punk. Both genres can get personal or societal emotions across with such simple songs. Or the songs are just made for the fun of it because they have a guitar in their hand.
Parisian Enclave - The Mountain Goats He’s been around for a while so there’s no surprise I found a song on the newest Mountain Goats album
Sanctuary - Hiss Golden Messenger Two North Carolina bands back to back. I’m a fan of this album and his voice, but like most of the albums this week I’m not sure if I picked the best song off of this album. I also really liked If It Comes in the Morning.
Angel or Alien - Born of Osiris Love the intro to this song, then it’s… fine…
Only 9 songs this week. I just couldn’t sit through more electronic or experimental which could be great but there’s a lot of it every week and…. nope. Although Bureaucratic Collectivism by On-ly was kind of cool for experimental.
